Doctors have been known to ‘prescribe’ a glass of wine. The health benefits of moderate consumption of red wine in particular have been scientifically demonstrated.
That is not what this post is about, but it IS doctor related and I believe it’s the MOST IMPORTANT post I have written to date!
The absence of sickness does not mean we are ‘well’.
Like a lot of people (and men in particular) I seldom, if ever, have NEED to go to the doctor because of sickness.
BUT, even though I am in my (very!) early forties and I feel great, that doesn’t necessarily mean I am ‘well’.
Which is why EVERY birthday I buy myself a special birthday gift – an appointment at the doctor for A FULL CHECK UP.
That small, simple investment in time and money could turn out be the actual gift of life itself or a better quality of life for me – and therefore for my family!
How often do you hear of people who have passed away or become permanently ill because a changing mole wasn’t picked up, a prostate test wasn’t taken or a simple blood test wasn’t conducted?
I do it on my birthday (I recently celebrated one) because it is the only way I remember. “My birthday = Doctor’s appointment” and has done for years.
I don’t claim this as an original idea - I read it somewhere years ago.
I urge you to do it too, or to get one of your loved ones to adopt the exercise for themselves on their birthday on an annual basis!
Maybe not as enjoyable as a glass of Syrah, but one glass of red never really saved the life of a loved one!
