The Media lives on bad news. Its a sad fact of life. Even sadder is that we buy it and tune into it – without demand for bad news the media would need to change its tune.
It’s not gonna happen – human nature seems attracted to knowing about the suffering of others.
So, here is a TRUE GOOD NEWS STORY that happened recently at Ascension Wine Estate.
Probably no one will read it, being good news and all.
Recently I was asked to contact a guest by phone after a visit to Ascension.
When I occasionally get these requests, 99% of the time I am phoning somebody who was not 100% satisfied with their experience here. Fair enough, we appreciate the opportunity to put things right.
So, I phone Fran as requested. A bubbly voice answers and I introduce myself.
AND THEN I AM BLOWN AWAY!
Fran Davies is a director of the International Art Centre in Parnell www.InternationalArtCentre.co.nz. She has been coming to Ascension for a number of years and she says she loves what we do!
She has an original oil painting of Ascension by prominent NZ artist Simon Williams www.SimonWilliamsArt.com. Bill Clinton purchased one of Simon’s works last time he was in NZ. Simon’s paintings of NZ are beautiful!
Would I like the painting of Ascension?
Yes I would (Fran emailed me a photo), but unfortunately I don’t have the spare several thousand dollars to buy it.
No, it would be a GIFT to us from Fran, Simon and the International Art Centre in Parnell.
I was overwhelmed – who would be so generous?
I had the pleasure of visiting the gallery (and if you haven’t it is awesome), meeting Fran and then Simon who presented me with the gorgeous painting.
It now hangs above the fireplace next to the most popular table at the Bistro. I’m still blown away by the generosity of Simon, Fran and her company.
CAN YOU ‘MAKE’ SOME GOOD NEWS HAPPEN AROUND YOU? I’m sure going to take the lead from Fran and Simon and try to do so myself!

Wow, that is great.. and you are right Darryl, the news is full of doom and gloom which drags us down.
We all have to make an effort to change our thought process, our habits and think positively as much as possible.
I’m not sure if I have told you this before, but what you and Bridget do/have done at Ascension inspires me.
